It’s Super Bowl week, which means it’s time to haul out the sports metaphors. Since 9/11 political leaders have talked incessantly about how the best defense against terrorism is a good offense, meaning we need to romp and stomp all over the globe to kill terrorists. But as any real football fan can tell, it’s defense, not offense, that wins championships.
